But now I feel I need to go through some serious refresher course and start from scratch (well, I guess not REALLY starting from nada) or maybe I'm just exaggerating things and all I really need to do is familiarize myself once more with the "ol' routine" and I can say for certain that I'll be back in the saddle in no time.

Since my last post on the Speeder Bike I had eventually stocked up on a few toy hauls to my collection but I have lost track on the sequencing on what did I purchase first, but it really doesn't matter that much to me now and all I need to do is make up for lost time and come up with more new updates, and six-months is a very long time... but nonetheless let's cut the chit-chat and on to my first new post for 2013.

As you all know, as a random toy collector, I always had this soft spot for second-hand toys though you may not be getting them complete (accessory-wise or package-wise) nor are they in mighty good shape but what matters to me the most is that for as long you know what you're buying and if you do like that item, no matter what their condition is, then go for it.. and that happened to me sometime around last month when I was scouting the Toy Zone haven in Greenhills and happen to chance upon this nifty toy find tucked away at a cramped display rack at this toy shop that I frequent to. I was at the right place and at the right time and I can truly say that I hit the jackpot this time around. I've been a big fan of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion and over a period of time I was able to get for myself some of the main characters from the anime like Shinji Ikari, Asuka Langley and of course Rei Ayanami (and for some weird reason I still, up to this very day, don't have any toy figure of Mari Makinami Illustrious in my collection) but my biggest frustration are the Eva Cyborgs or those huge mechas that our main characters pilot to fend off their nemesis called Angels.

The Evangelion Type 00 -- one of my prized possessions

Back profile of the Type 00

Anyways, as I was rummaging through the stuff inside the display cabinet, I saw something familiar standing somewhere in the middle of the toy crowd and as I looked closely, and to my surprise, it was indeed the Evangelion Type 00 cyborg piloted by Rei Ayanami! I took it out from the cabinet and checked it out immediately. And like other second-hand toys, you rarely get them in excellent pristine shape with complete accessories all intact and stuff.. this Type 00 was lacking the weapons along with some of its physical detail parts missing as well, but the articulation of its bendable joints are still in good condition and making the toy stand and do other poses was possible, which for me weighed more importance rather than the missing weapons or accessories. I bought the Type 00 for only Php 250.00 (roughly around $6.00++) and that was indeed a good buy for me and a first since I now have an Eva Cyborg added to my collection.

Cyborg and pilot standing side-by-side

I know it would take another rare opportunity for me to come across another Evangelion mecha hiding somewhere out there but if I do chance upon them I will undoubtedly never take that risk and get them right away, maybe for the right price depending on the state of the toy figure. Until next time folks, stay safe always and happy toy hunting!Mekandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14312284263466042296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6889512712450162590.post-64108178740402315572012-11-12T18:42:00.000+08:002012-11-12T18:49:06.527+08:00My new Star Wars Imperial Speeder Bike with Biker Scout figure from Kenner/Hasbro Japan (1995)

The current line of Star Wars toys today has come a long, long way from those that came out back in the late 1970's to early 1980's, but nonetheless, the classic line of toys (or more popularly known as 'The Vintage Collection') are still the ones that is in high demand from collectors everywhere. As a kid I never had that much Star Wars toys in my collection and as far as I can remember I only had the Chewbacca and Stormtrooper figures and this nifty Speeder Bike vehicle which was given to me by a friend sometime around the 1980's. The two action figures are still with me though their individual weapons had been lost over the years and the Speeder Bike just disappeared mysteriously but I'm pretty sure that the two out of the three exploding parts of the bike had been missing ever since. My sister currently holds the record for the most number of Star Wars toys in her collection and it just keeps increasing every time I went to the mall and she'd ask favors from me to get her this and that. But I never realized that this day will come that I'd be reunited with a childhood toy that I truly cherished for the longest time... and I could never be happier.
A couple of days ago I went out to pick up some Star Wars toys that my sister ordered and among the items she purchased, I got for myself the Imperial Speeder Bike from Kenner/Hasbro Japan that came out in 1995 for only Php 600 (roughly around $14.00++). This version of the Speeder Bike has slightly improved compared to the one that I had before in terms of the paint job and its finish is much more detailed and precise unlike the first generation where it is outright plain and just simply looks like a toy. It still has the exploding function where you just press the button located at the back of the vehicle and the toy dismantles into three parts. It has been so many years since I neglectfully lost the first Speeder Bike that I had and this new one definitely brought back a lot of good memories and since I'm much older and wiser when it comes to taking care of my current toy collection, this baby will surely be handled with extra care.
The Biker Scout figure (or more popularly known as the Imperial Scout Stormtrooper) that came with the vehicle somehow changed drastically in 1995 in terms of its physical attributes but the articulation still was limited to bending knees and movable arms though not completely and making it stand straight for display or diorama purposes is no good since the Biker Scout was molded in a semi-slouch position and the legs are somehow stretched wide apart to to make the figure appear to be in riding position... and that's the gist of it. Your only option is to buy a separate Biker Scout figure if you want to play around with the Bike for photography purposes, that is if you can still find a Vintage Kenner figure of it selling somewhere and hopefully getting it at a reasonable price, these Vintage Collection figures can be quite expensive to purchase. But as of the moment, these lovelies will do for now and I'm as satisfied as hell with it! Here are some photos of the Speeder Bike I took yesterday and ain't it a looker? Though I got to admit that I'm not that well-versed with this cutesy, green-haired babe and the only thing I know is that she rose to popularity initially as Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid mascot and most of her toy figures (particularly the ones from Figma and such) are quite pricey nowadays... every now and then when I go to any toy shop you'll never miss the chance to spot a Hatsune Miku figure on display, whether it be the normal one, the Nendoroid version or even the statue version that can fetch a really hefty price tag... Hatsune is just everywhere!

Though that thought of Hatsune toy figures being expensive and all has prevented me from getting one (or at least gave me that urge to exert some effort to save up for it) doesn't mean that I won't be able to find a way to get myself one at a more "reasonable and affordable" price... as a random toy collector, it never was an issue for me on whether the item is genuine or bootleg (unlike some people I know) what's more important is that I get my money's worth on the toy and basically that's it. One time I was at Greenhills doing some rounds in search of good finds until I stopped by the Comic Alley branch where they were having a sale on selected items, though the shop there wasn't that big so getting to find something to buy is limited or worse, you may not find anything to purchase at all.

As soon as I entered I began browsing thoroughly on their items on display, then on the center row I happen to chance upon some of these Hatsune Miku Nendoroid keychains hanging on one corner and they were selling for only Php 99.00 each (more or less around $2.00++), since there were like 3 to 4 pieces left on sale, I decided to pick the one with less defects or paint job flaws and bought it immediately. Somehow I can consider this as my very first Hatsune Miku figure though it's not a 6-incher nor a statue or even a genuine one, it still is a Hatsune Miku after all... like I've said, as a random toy collector, the specifics aren't a big factor to me in any way. Having to be a keychain wasn't much of a problem since all I had to do was to twist out the chain screwed on top of the figure's head and she's as good as an anime gashapon on its own. To make it stand, a mini plastic base with stand from one of my old Nendoroid toy figures took care of that problem and voila!... You can now see Hatsune Miku in all of her blissful state holding aloft two celery stalks on both hands.

Since there isn't much articulation on this figure and basically it is just good for display purposes so I'm limited to these three photos I took of her, but nevertheless I hope you guys like it.

Recently, I got to feature this cool toy find that I've purchased dirt cheap at the SM Toy Express a couple of months ago which was the Crystal Warrior DX Fighter Magical spacecraft from Bandai, and for those who are not familiar with Crystal Warrior, China took the initiative to come up with their own original Super Sentai heroes to compete against their more popular Japanese and U.S. counterparts.. though honestly it took me a little bit of effort to find out more about them over the internet since there wasn't that much talk about them and I couldn't get to find any website (official or fan-based) to support my blog article.. only from a handful of forums did I manage to get the information I wanted about Crystal Warrior, though it wasn't that much but it was a lot of help. Bandai somehow stepped in to support the creators of Crystal Warrior by handling their merchandising and they came up with a fair number of toys comprising of figures and spacecrafts.. and that's the gist of it.

What caught my attention from the Crystal Warrior toy line being sold on sale at Toy Express were the spacecrafts since at that time the store sold only the bigger versions of the main Sentai characters and getting just a few of them can be a huge nightmare for my already cramped bedroom, the spacecrafts were more manageable and looking for a spot to place them in was easy. Out of the 5 spacecrafts selling, I only got two from the collection... and now I present to you, ladies and gentlemen, the Crystal Warrior DX Fighter Water spacecraft.

The price for this baby is the same as the DX Fighter Magical (around Php 60 or roughly around $1.00++) and even though they were both manufactured by Bandai, I really wasn't that impressed with some of the toy's physical attributes, in terms of the colorways and the detailing but you can see and feel that it's sturdy (which is synonymous to Bandai's excellence in toy quality) and not some knock-off toy that can break easily after some time. For some strange reason I got the urge to take out my camera and take snapshots of the DX Fighter Water yesterday afternoon and here are some of them that you can check after the article. Hope you like it guys and 'til next time, stay safe always!
was quite unfortunate for me to have not attended the recently concluded ToyCon
2012 held at the SM Megamall due to unforeseen circumstances last Saturday (the
second day of the event) and I couldn't even attend the last day yesterday
since I had to stay home for a simple celebration with the family. I guess I'll
have to wait for the next ToyCon to be able to do my annual pilgrimage in the
land of toys and cosplay... Anyways, it has been quite a while since my last
update and I have here now with me another good toy find that I have purchased
recently and though at first the item wasn't quite that familiar with yours
truly and the toy was literally "shrouded in mystery" from the moment
I took it off from the shelves and as I carefully checked the packaging, the
only defining factor from its anonymity is the Bandai logo which means that
this is legit and in no way can it be some bootleg toy manufactured in some
far-flung corner of the world. And I'm talking about the Crystal Warrior DX
Fighter Magical spacecraft...

I
was at the SM Toy Express (a toy discount store chain here in the Philippines)
about a month ago when I saw this plus three other spacecraft variables being
sold for only Php 60 (roughly around $1.00++) from its original price of Php
120 per variable. Since these toys were not that familiar with me, I decided to
get for myself 2 out of the 4 available spacecrafts and check them out first
before I can decide to acquire all of them. As soon as I got home, I did some
little research on Crystal Warrior and found out that they are somewhat China's
answer to the more popular Sentai heroes of Japan and the U.S. but as of to
date, these Chinese Sentai heroes are still quite unfamiliar to most people...
or I could be wrong. There were a few personal blogs and forums discussing
about Crystal Warrior and since Bandai took them in to handle their toy
merchandising, it has somehow, in some other way, helped boost their
franchising though it wasn't enough to get them flourishing in today's
mainstream Sentai market.

Going
back, I decided to unbox the DX Fighter Magical and I must say that the toy
item isn't that bad at all, in fact the spacecraft has the resemblance of a
crossover between a F-117 Stealth Fighter and an F-2 Stealth Bomber when its
wings are clipped. Paint job on the toy is quite average having just the
cockpit/canopy glass painted partly in blue while some parts were painted in
black and the rest are in white. The item is purely made of plastic though it
doesn't give you that cheap feel of plastic toys that you get off the
sidestreets from some toy vendor selling bootleg toys or something like that.
Overall, it's not that bad nor is it at par with very good quality toys
synonymous to the Bandai brand and their products. It is somewhere in the
middle where quality is up a notch from average with a price tag that is
reasonable to those who are just random toy collectors looking for good bargain
finds.

It
was only yesterday afternoon that I took some snapshots of the item since I was
preoccupied in recent times with other stuff (including some bouts of laziness
attacks) and I have managed to come up with a photo set that you can see in its
entirety over at our Facebook page. Here are some photo samples of the toy and
hope you guys like it. 'Til next time guys, stay safe always!

It's been quite a while since my last post update and yet again I would like to apologize for my long absence here on Made in X since yours truly have been preoccupied with other things and I somehow sidetracked with all of my blog post updates. Anyways it is nice to know that there are still a handful of you guys out there checking out my blog and I can't thank each and everyone of you enough for doing so, very much appreciated! On today's post I have here another good find that I purchased a couple of weeks ago from the toy shop that I frequent to and since I got it as a loose item for Php 100 (roughly around $2.00 something) I never got any concrete info on this gashapon though the female anime character looks familiar and that's the gist of it, no more, no less. But in any case she is definitely cute... no issues on the paint job and molding as well.

Though I have several guesses on the anime figure but either way I still can't make anything out of it on whether she came from an anime series or a PC/console game, though her outfit suggests that she may be some game character taken from a particular MMORPG but then again I might be wrong so it's identity is yet on a standstill. I have managed to take some snapshots of it and you can find more of the photos after the jump.

So until next time folks, stay safe always and I'll try my very best to give you more toy updates in the coming days here on Made in X. Thank you!
It is like seeing David turned into a living, breathing chunk of organic steel fighting off a monstrous Goliath wearing a gigantic metal helmet with virtually an unstoppable momentum for total destruction.

When the X-Men action figures came out, I was bent on having one Colossus and one Juggernaut figure sometime soon, up until recently Marvel Select did an awesome job with their version of Colossus and I was just blown away with what they did to the Juggernaut figure as well!... it's huge, massive, very well detailed and worth the money you'll be spending on this item! The only petty issue I got with these Marvel Select goodies is that they are quite big in size and currently there is no way I can display them inside my cramped room and getting myself a new display cabinet may be the possible solution though sadly I can't afford to buy one right now. Having this dilemma is such a pain but a couple of weeks back I was lucky enough to have for myself a smaller version of Juggernaut that I purchased as a good conditioned loose item. It may not be overflowing with superb awesomeness like its Marvel Select counterpart but it is still worth having.

Released in 2008 by Marvel under the Spider Man Super Villain toy line, Juggernaut looks more proportioned in terms of its physical ratio and his built is more vertically lean. The only sole accessory you get to have with this action figure is his removable helmet that you can place over or remove to reveal his alter ego as the human-mutant Cain Marko with his head draped with a leather headgear. So far posing the figure has given me no problems and articulation is good enough to make him go into several action poses. I got the item for Php 395 (around $3.00++) though there are other toy shops selling him (as a loose item) at a more expensive price so technically it was a good steal for me and not quite bad for my first Juggernaut action figure.

War Machine from Marvel-Hasbro

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect for this opportunity to come, and just when I thought that I had totally given up in finding a mini 3-inch figure of War Machine to somehow complete my Iron Man 2 collection... there they were... staring literally right in front of me... hanging on display at a famous toy discount store. I was in complete bliss! Where have you been all my life?!.. Is this real?!.. For heaven's sake somebody pinch me and tell me this isn't a dream! Instinctively I grabbed the very first War Machine figure I saw in front of me and knowing that there might be another one hidden somewhere, I began to thoroughly search each and every row I came across and bingo! Saw another one lurking somewhere in the middle section and immediately took it as well.

Before I continue folks, let me give you a brief rundown on the entire story behind my constant search for that elusive 3-inch War Machine figure for all of you guys to know what I have been blabbing just earlier... Marvel/Hasbro came up with this Iron Man 2 line-up of toys (which includes the 3-inchers) during the world premiere of the second Iron Man movie back in 2010. Eventually the excess stocks of Iron Man 2 toys went on sale around middle to late last year (2011) and that was the only time I was able to purchase the Mark III, Mark V and Mark VI since their prices were slashed by half. The 3-inchers were as abundant as it can be and all I had to do was carefully choose the better one where there were no issues with the paint job, cosmetic defects and so forth. And in that line-up, War Machine and the Tactical Assault Drone are also included... but not even one of these figures was to be found selling or even hiding somewhere from the Marvel Toy Section! Talk about "intentional scarcity" where some individuals would hoard the items that they know would be the most wanted by fans and collectors alike and jack-up their prices 2 to 3 times more! I couldn't care less about the Tactical Assault Drone if I don't get to buy it, but come hell or high waters I must have just even one War Machine figure... just one figure to complete my collection and that's it! Sadly weeks turned to months and months into years, and eventually I've decided to give up my search for those War Machine 3-inch figures because for one thing, I know for a fact that there are other toy shops who has those and as much as I want that item, I will not even dare to shell out my money for something that they are selling way too high than its intended retail price. But I guess it was indeed my destiny to cross paths with this baby and all I needed was to wait for a looonnnggg time, but it paid off quite well! I bought the two War Machine figures I found on the spot and went home feeling, as always, like a winner!

Despite being small with several paint job issues, this figure is still worth having!

I've posted some of the photos I took earlier and honestly, despite its small frame and limited posing action, this War Machine figure just looks awesome from every angle you look! No wonder every single War Machine item, from the smallest to the biggest figure, were selling out fast! Iron Man rocks big time no doubt about it, but there's something about the War Machine suit that gains (slightly) the upper hand than that of the other Tony Stark masterpieces... the colors? The payload of weaponry? Maybe these two factors have contributed greatly in making James Rhodes' alter-ego look really bad-ass!

I'm back ladies and gentlemen for another new toy feature and I do hope all of you would forgive me for the long delay in the post updates here on Made in X since yours truly have been not in the best of health lately and my suspicion is that I've been spending too much of my time in front of the PC and before things could get from bad to worse, I decided to stay away for a while from my beloved desktop computer and nursed myself for some time until I got my groove back. Anyways, today I would like to share to all of you this nifty action toy figure that I consider to be one of the best buys I've ever purchased and it is no other than that very controversial comic book character conceptualized by writer Neil Gaiman and brought to life by artist Todd McFarlane. And I'm talking about none other than that fiery, angelic bounty hunter vixen we all know as Angela...

I've been somewhat an avid collector of figures released by McFarlane Toys though I can't say that I have a huge collection of these items with me but when I get to really fancy a particular character from any of the vast McFarlane Toys line, I made sure that I'd get them no matter what, given the fact that these items doesn't come cheap and making that crucial, final decision on what to buy first was serious torment to myself and on my budget. Sadly McFarlane Toys somehow slowed down (if not, ceased production indefinitely) with the manufacturing of its action figures and you might get to come across some of these toys selling somewhere either in mint condition with a hefty price tag or being sold as loose items from second-hand toy shops. But for the Angela action figure that I bought, I got it for cheap but the carded packaging was somehow nearly in bad shape... it wasn't sold as a loose item, it was in a way untouched with some major issues on the packaging.
The Angela Deluxe Action Figure was released in 1995 during the height of Spawn's popularity and was part of a toy line released by Todd McFarlane which was known then as 'Todd Toys.' Being an action figure released in the 1990's, it was just like any other action figure in the market at that time where you can sway back and forth its arms, bend their knees and insert weapons on their hands.. stuff like that. To compare it to today's toy standards, the first-generation figures from Todd Toys are now categorized as "crude" and in a way outdated unlike today where toy figures are just brimming with numerous sweet points of articulation on every joint in their body where you can just pose them anyway you want. But I do know for one thing is that, what sets Todd Toys apart from the other toy figures then are the awesome detailing and craftsmanship made on every Spawn character released... fanboys and toy collectors were just smitten and drooling over them and they will do anything just to get their hands on every character released in the market! As for me, seeing this classic Angela fig from Todd Toys can be considered a rare find and figures like these are hard to come by nowadays and so I never hesitated to buy it since this and the other characters included were the first ones who came in line until Todd came up with more finely, intricately detailed figures we come to know as part of his successful 'McFarlane Toys' merchandise.

Since the packaging is all worn out, I never felt any regret opening it and so I took it out from the plastic casing and started taking photos of her on my tabletop studio. I've attached some photo samples of Angela below and if you want to check out the rest of the set, please do visit our Facebook page by just clicking here. Hope you guys like it and until the next toy feature, stay safe always!
It was a good thing I was able to find it along with its other variations among the heap of toys placed on their long table. Overall the Real Product Stage series from Bandai has around four variables consisting of other famous classic Kamen Rider characters, who pioneered the Henshin genre as early as the 1970's, depicting famous fight scenes through these well-made diorama sets. I would have wanted to complete all four sets if only I found them sooner... but fate has been a bit unkind that day and now I had to pick just one set that I really like the most.

(L) Riderman (Kamen Rider Yongo) and (R) Kamen Rider V3 finishing off their enemy

After a good number of minutes playing 'eeny, meeny, miny, moe' on the four Kamen Rider sets, I decided to pick this one where you get to see Kamen Rider V3 and Riderman (Kamen Rider Yongo) finishing off their enemy as it explodes in the background of the mini diorama. I knew that there's this big chance that I won't be able to find that store after the fair and chances are they will be selling the remaining sets back to its original price, so I settled for this one since you get two Kamen Rider characters in one diorama unlike the others where you have one Kamen Rider hero fighting one or two enemies and that's about it, but it would be nice to have them all if only I could've stretch my wallet and my budget to full capacity that day...

Around late this afternoon I decided to piece together the diorama and had a small photoshoot with it since it has been days since my last session and so here are some of the photos I took from my small tabletop studio earlier and you can also check the complete set on our Facebook page by clicking here.

At first I thought I bagged a real nice find when I found this cute gashapon of a blue-haired female anime character which looked like Lynn Minmay from Macross, tucked away deep inside this huge plastic container of anime gashapons. Even though I could see through the small plastic packaging that some of its parts came off, I was so ecstatic about it (knowing at first that I got myself a Lynn Minmay fig) and immediately bought the item right away along with the other figures I unearthed. A few days later when I took it out and pieced together all of its parts, I soon realized that this is not Hikaru Ichijo's (or Rick Hunter for all of you Robotech fans) love interest... for one thing, I don't clearly remember Lynn Minmay wearing something as skimpy as this outfit you're seeing right now in the photo, or in any of the entire Macross episodes for that matter. Though this unknown female anime figure has a microphone on one hand and she too has blue long hair, the tint may be the same but the hairstyle is definitely different. Modern version of Lynn?... I guess not, this unknown figure may probably be taken from another anime title (or possibly ecchi or hentai, who knows?) But nonetheless, I decided to play around with it and created myself a mini, pseudo-Macross diorama of this Lynn Minmay stand-in along with my Macross Plus YF-21 from Yamato.

It would have been nice if I paired off the YF-21 with the real Lynn Minmay figure but unfortunately she somehow resembled just like her and I guess it won't hurt to do my own "modern" rendition. I have here some of the photos I took sometime around last week and if you guys would want to see the rest of the album, please do visit our Facebook page by clicking here.

When the anime K-On! first aired on Animax a couple of years ago here in the Philippines, I did somehow expected it to be one of those cutesy anime series with adorable girls in school uniforms forming a band until they realized their dreams and made a name for themselves. But what struck me the most about the entire series are the instruments and their "historical or factual relevance" (which is mentioned from time to time in several episodes) used by the girls of Ho-kago Tea Time (or After School Tea Time in the English-dubbed series), particularly the stringed instruments used by Yui Hirasawa (who's using the legendary Heritage Cherry Sunburst Gibson Les Paul), Mio Akiyama (Fender Precision Bass in the manga version and the Fender Jazz Bass in the anime version) and this cutey member I'm going to showcase today who's seen using a nifty Fender Mustang electric guitar... and yes she's no other than Azusa Nakano or fondly called by the moniker 'Azu-nyan' coined by Yui.

From what I can remember during the entire first series and if my memory serves me right, Azusa came only into the band several episodes later, making her someone like Ringo Starr who joined The Beatles a little bit later until he became, finally, a part of what was to become a timeless, legendary band in music history. Oftentimes I confuse her with Mio since both of them look almost alike and the two characters sport really long black hair, a little bit of getting used to has helped me train my eye in spotting who's Mio and who's Azusa. But in the level of cuteness in anime standards, I say Azusa tops them all maybe for her physical aspects in the anime spectrum... and since she's the youngest among the rest of the band members, no wonder Yui couldn't stop teasing her as 'Azu-meow' since she looks very cute and adorable like a cat or whenever Yui asks her to wear those Cat's Ears headpiece or tricks her to act like one eventually. Two season series and a movie on K-On! have passed and not even once did I get to have their toy figures, whether solo or in set... Maybe I was too preoccupied then in collecting other anime characters or for some strange reason I couldn't remember anymore. Anyways, I finally got my chance during the 6th Toy Fair held last December when I chanced upon this stall selling these gashapons of K-On! and luckily I got the last piece of Azusa Nakano's figure and bought it right away!

It would have been nice if I got the bigger, 12-inch version of Azusa but getting this gashapon of her is a start and hopefully I get to collect the rest of the K-On! characters sometime soon. I took some snapshots of the Azusa gashapon yesterday and I've uploaded some of those photos here and you can check the rest after the jump. Hope you guys like it and 'til next time, stay safe always!

Happy New Year ladies and gentlemen! I hope all of you guys had a wonderful time doing a lot of merrymaking and partying as we kickstart 2012 with new hopes and dreams of a better and peaceful year despite the controversies surrounding the mystery behind the December 21 prediction for which we all strongly wish, hope and pray that it will never happen... But as they all say, "Live life to the fullest, do the things that you like the most and enjoy every single day as if it were your last." Anyways, I would like again to share to you this wonderful find I purchased last year during the 6th Christmas Toy Fair held at the SM Megamall, and this time, it's none other than a gashapon figure of Kamen Rider 2.

Kamen Rider 2 can be categorized as one of the most famous and legendary fictional characters ever to come out in the Japanese Tokusatsu television series Kamen Rider back in the early 1970's. The only difference between the first Kamen Rider and Kamen Rider 2 is the color scheme of their costumes for which it was modeled after a grasshopper (particularly the headgear that they're using.) Riding on those big, cool and classic motorcycles, these superheroes are out to stop the terror organization Shocker from dominating Japan and the entire world using their kick-ass fighting skills and martial arts until they deliver that final blow to the "enemy boss" using cinematic finishing moves at the end of every episode. It was with this and the other Kamen series of the 70's that brought forth a new generation of Super Sentai heroes that evolved over the decades which includes the likes of Bioman, Shaider, Power Rangers, Saban's Masked Rider and many others.

I happen to stumble upon this nice gashapon of Kamen Rider 2 at the stall of Akihabara Toys during the Toy Fair and it sure was nice to have one of these in my collection since Kamen Rider is all too familiar for someone like me who grew up in the 70's and 80's. I eventually did some low-light photography on the gashapon but I'm planning to come up with another set where you guys can get to see Kamen Rider 2 in full, clear detail. But for now I give you folks this small photo set and please do stay tuned for the others very soon. So until next time, stay safe always!

It was during the last day of the 6th Toy Fair held at the SM Megamall that I was able to get me some nifty loot of goodies unlike last June during the ToyCon where I only got to bring home two items... nothing more, nothing less. Learning from that mistake, I made sure this time I'll be leaving the place with more than a handful of toys to be added to my collection... and I'd like to share one of them today.

I made it a point that I'd do a quick yet thorough scan on the goods from every participating stall that I came across within the confides of the Megatrade Hall 1, and it was at this particular toy stall that something caught my eye and I knew at that exact moment that this item had to be in my stash of goodies no matter what! And I'm talking about this miniature diorama of Tetsujin 28 (or more popularly known in the U.S. as Gigantor). It is somewhere around 3-inches high and it shows a plastic figure of Tetsujin 28 soaring up to the skies with its base part showing several miniature buildings with searchlight beams located at the back. It was only selling for Php 30.00 (roughly around $0.70) and without batting an eyelash, I took out my wallet and bought this baby right there and then.

This is just one of the several items I got from the Toy Fair and I'll be posting more of them very soon. But for now I have uploaded here several photos of the Tetsujin 28 diorama that I took a few days ago so I hope you like 'em ladies and gentlemen. 'Til next time, stay safe always!

The 6th Christmas Toy Fair and the 1st Philippines Diecast and Custom Car Show concluded it's successful three-day event yesterday and I was able to make my pilgrimage that morning to the Megatrade Hall 1 located on the 5th floor of the SM Megamall. Luckily I was able to reach my point of destination in no time since I left early to avoid the horrendous Yuletide traffic that has become a huge nightmare for commuters like me for ages! Though the organizers for Toy Fair & Diecast Car Show managed to get hold of just one hall for its venue, the number of participating toy shop owners wasn't, in a way, that many unlike during the annual ToyCon being held during the month of June, but somehow it was enough to satisfy all toy enthusiasts with their insatiable craving for bargain toys up for sale. I immediately went inside and began scouting the place to check what's in store for me and for the other attendees as well. I never got to take photos at first since I noticed that morning there was not even one individual holding a camera and taking snapshots inside, so I dashed my way to every stall that I could find and began rummaging on their stuff and got hold of some goodies that I'll be needing as backup, I can say that I was now able to have more than a handful of toys in tow unlike last June during the ToyCon where I only got two items from that event. It was only shortly before lunch when I got to see camera flashes ring out from one spot to another and so it was time to take out my camera and shoot me some photos for both my Made in X Facebook page and for this blog as well.

The build up of people flocking to the Toy Fair was somehow bearable and close to normal so I was able to move around freely and took photos of those stalls who were gracious and kind enough to let me... but unfortunately, there were some who turned us down (I've given a hint on our Facebook page so you guys might as well check it out ü), but nevertheless I was able to take a good number of photos both from the Toy Fair and the 1st Philippines Diecast & Custom Car Show which catered to all car enthusiasts with a fairly huge number of toy cars, big and small, diecast and scale model kits... name it, they have it on display. Aside from toys and cars, the regular folks from the cosplay world were there and from time to time the organizers held toy auctions to the delight of the crowd. My friend and Made in X admin member Adrian and his brother Bryan followed shortly to the event and since I'm done with my business there, I accompanied the two as they did some rounds in checking out the stalls. Though tired, exhausted and somewhat "broke", we had a grand time the entire day and we're now bracing ourselves for the next main event which will happen this coming June for the 2012 ToyCon.

I have posted here some of the photos I took yesterday and if you want to check out the rest of the album, please do find the time to visit our Facebook page by clicking here. 'Til next time folks, stay safe always!
It's that most wonderful time of the year and yes ladies and gentlemen, Christmas is just around the corner and everyone's in a hustle and bustle mood preparing for this joyous occasion which will be happening in a week's time... And here on Made in X, we usher in the yuletide season with our very first toy feature this December and it's none other than that lovely PVC figure of Aegis (or spelled as "Aigis" for some) from the popular Playstation game 'Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3' manufactured by Bandai Chogokin.

I was very much aware of the Persona game made for the Playstation, in fact I remember getting so engrossed in playing with the very first Persona game on the Playstation 1 console many years ago and though the graphics and gameplay may not be that grand and mind-blowing unlike on the PS2 and PS3 platforms, but getting to kick your opponent's booty with some real nifty stuff like mixing and matching those elemental cards to concoct a spirit guardian (sorry folks I can't remember anymore the right terms used for that game) that you can summon to crush your enemy to smithereens... it was like playing Final Fantasy 8 with a touch of Final Fantasy Tactics on the side. Sadly I never got to play the other Persona series on the PS2 mainly I was focused on playing other game titles like Gran Turismo, Silent Hill and Resident Evil, I only learned about the new series when I eventually "retired" from playing the PS2 though I plan on doing some catching up on the game through its PSP version.

Last December 11, I was with my buddies and fellow toy enthusiasts Adrian and Francis and later that afternoon at Adrian's place, I had that rare experience in getting a closer look at this wonderful Chogokin figure of Aegis and as soon as it got unboxed and placed inside the lightbox, my camera clicked away and was very much satisfied with this beauty. I can truly say that this is a must-have for all Persona fans out there. I have other photo samples of Aegis posted on this article and if you guys would want to see the entire set, please do visit our Facebook page by clicking here and see why this lovely PVC figure is worth to have in your collection. Last November 26 I accompanied my friend and former co-worker to get her laptop from a service center located somewhere in Libis. It has been almost like two years since we last saw each other and so we decided to hangout in Eastwood after getting her beloved laptop named "Hades" and spent the rest of the afternoon catching up with lost time with a good, lengthy conversation over cigarettes and Starbucks fraps. It was around 7 p.m. when we decided to call it a night since she lives in Las Piñas and she had to catch the shuttle in Makati going back to her place. After getting her a cab, I decided to hang around for awhile since it has been almost a year since I last went there and of course it was time for me to make another glorious pilgrimage to the 2Rats toy shop and check out some of their stuff that might catch my fancy. Surprisingly there weren't much anime gashapons on display unlike last year where you can get to choose a lot of varieties on display. I was supposed to get this cool-looking Bearbrick PVC figure for only Php 100 ($2.00++) but it was a good thing that I decided to stick around and searched thoroughly among their stuff... until I came across this loose figure of Laura Kinney or better known as Wolverine's teen female counterpart 'X-23' from the comic book series X-Men.

Full view of the X-23 toy figure

The shop had three X-23 loose figures, 2 of those are the ones that you see on the photos I've posted while the other one was a bit smaller and not too feminine in features, it kinda reminded me of a crossover between Lobo and members of KISS! Anyways, I decided to get the Marvel Legends from ToyBiz version since it has more feminine looks and its features, in a way, stayed true to the comic book character. Now for my personal assessment... Since purchasing it as a loose item, you are bound to experience flaws here and there on the item and I was ready for it, the figure's left arm was starting to loose up though with the right angle positions it is still poseable, but what I noticed was that her limbs, most especially with her jointed kneecaps, were quite stiff and using excessive force to bend it might damage the figure permanently. So as much as I wanted to make her do some action poses, I was limited to a few safe ones due to its stiff joints. And I always have to remind myself that this is just a loose item and rarely do you find second-hand toys in tip-top condition. A few days later I found out from one dude who did a thorough review on this particular X-23 figure and from what I read, he seems to be totally dissatisfied with the figure as if everything was just a big joke, though his rants on his review are somewhat true and I can attest to the fact that it is not just pure hearsay.

Sculpting on the figure is just plain and dull, paint job not too fancy and lacking, the figure was made from "poor" plastic material, stability is not quite good and letting her stand on its own two feet is a balancing act and finally, articulation is quite bad on the neck, elbows and knees and one wrong move could mean permanent disaster on the toy. So I guess it was indeed a "joke" after all when Toy Biz released this X-23 Marvel Legends figure... too bad and they could have done a better job in making it look good instead of releasing it just for the sake of. But nonetheless I still wanted her since I couldn't afford to buy the Kotobukiya Bishoujo statue of her and I'll be using the lovely Laura Kinney as one of my upcoming characters in my existing web comics blog. Oh well, despite the flaws and all... I'm cool with it! 'Til next time folks!Mekandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14312284263466042296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6889512712450162590.post-57417130772260353532011-11-29T01:11:00.001+08:002011-11-29T01:44:07.001+08:00November toy feature # 5 -- Maria Freed from UFO GrendizerAnd for our last special toy feature for the month of November, here is one famous anime babe who is undeniably alluring and attractive that she's just oozing with pure sexiness from head to toe! She's none other than the lovely Maria Freed from Go Nagai's hit anime based on his third entry in the Mazinger trilogy 'UFO Grendizer' (or more popularly known in Canada as Goldorak.)

This exclusive and limited figure from Yamato USA was released in December 2009 and it shows Maria wearing an alternate and sexier black and purple uniform with some translucent portions that is definitely revealing and a must-see for all of you cheeky dudes out there! This PVC figure has long been discontinued and thanks to my pal Adrian I was able to capture some nice photographs of this rare beauty and here are some photo samples below.

Every inch of this 2010 re-issue figure is oozing with fine, intricate details that makes Primus even more superior and powerful-looking, most especially when you get to see the small city-like structures embedded in and around his massive frame. And its twice the excitement once you get to see him transform into the planet Cybertron which is equally fantastic as his full-frame figure. This beauty of a toy is definitely a scene stealer and it can make any Transformers fan drool with sheer envy! And like always it was time for me to whip out my camera and photograph Primus at Adrian's place a couple of weeks ago.

Here are some of Primus' photo samples below taken that particular day and if you guys want to check out the rest of the album set, please do find the time to visit our Facebook page by clicking here. She's that dreamy, bespectacled brunette we all know as Mari Illustrious Makinami .

This fantastic action toy figure from Fräulein-Revoltech is indeed one eye candy you can never truly resist whether you're an Evangelion fan or not. If I'm not mistaken this is now the second series release from Fräulein wherein the first Mari Makinami action toy was fitted with a pink plug suit which (personally I think) showed more of Mari's feminine side while her latest figure gives you the best of both worlds... She's sugar and spice and everything nice! Mari is now fitted with an attractive green plug suit along while a huge State's Helmet is included in the package that you can actually wear on Mari's head.

Detailing from head to foot is simply awesome and this baby is definitely worth having in your collection! Thanks to my pal Adrian and he was kind enough to let me take some snapshots of Mari. And just right down below are some of her photo samples that I took a couple of weeks ago.

We're back ladies and gentlemen and after making that short hiatus from showcasing a new toy every month, I'm back in your humble presence to give you more of those lovely toys thanks to my buddies who graciously allowed me to take snapshots of their treasured stash from their collection, and first up for the month of November, we give you none other than the lovely Rei Ayanami from the hit anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.

There is something about Rei that got everybody hooked to this enigmatic female pilot of the Evangelion Unit 00... even I was so drawn into her that I found myself watching the series from time to time, which also includes collecting some of her gashapon figures as well. Last Sunday I was with my pals Adrian and Francis in Makati and I had the pleasure to photograph this beautiful Fräulein-Revoltech baby while hanging out at Adrian's crib and here are some photo samples of taken during that day.

Anyways, a couple of days ago I decided to unbox the Macross Valkyrie figures I've finally got to purchase and these consists of three Revoltechs (VF-1A, VF-1J and VF-1S) and one from Yamato (YF-21.) I would have wanted to take them out for an outdoor shoot but like what I've mentioned earlier, the weather is quite unpredictable and you'll never know whether you'll be basking under the sweltering heat or confined inside your homes due to the rains, but unfortunately the latter spoiled all the fun . This is an impromptu diorama photo shoot I did with my Macross figures and since I was limited to the space that was available for my makeshift diorama, I wasn't able to get good shots of it and this one you're seeing would probably fit the bill of an "okay" photo. I'll be working more on setting-up this diorama to make it "presentable" and hopefully get more better shots in the long run.
